Hello,
So to update things, we are just back in Lima now. We spent two days in Trujillo on the west coast which took an 8 hour bus journey (with some beautiful dessert landscape-see top video). While there we visited a few Chimu temples, many of which are still in the excavation stage. We also visited a poorer area where my Aunt Theresa used to work as a nurse helping the poor (despite the post author we both write these posts). The sisters who met us brought us around the area and showed the work they have been doing over the years ie building new schools, librarys, after school care programmes etc. It provided us with a really good insight to mission work and is definitely a good cause.
Next we flew to Cusco after an 8 hour bus drive and an all-nighter at the airport. (Who said travelling was fun!!!) As it is February, to our dissapointment, the Inca trail is closed due to maintenence and the rainy season. Machu Picchu was amazing, got spectacular views from the mountain beside it called Waynapicchu, which we painstakingly climbed after a 5 day sleep deprivation and high altitudes...hard hard work (see bottom video). Also Hi to Beatrice and Irina our climbing buddies, hope ye enjoy the rest of yer trip.
So back in Lima now, catching up on some sleep. Monday sees us flying to Quito and then onto Buenos Aires where we hope to find a beach. Adios Martin and Jen

So we have finally made it to south America and are on the home run. Flew in around lunch today, our longest flight so faR, 12 hours, and we didnt sleep at all. We are now 3 hours behind Ireland instead of 13 hours ahead which we were in New Z so bit hard to get the head around. Due to lack of sleep, blog entry may not be as witty :-) as normal and may include one or two spelling errors... apologies.
So quick recap on New Z, spent first couple of days checking out Milford Sound and Mt Cook (which we were very impressed with until today when we saw massive Andean Mts out the plane window). Then it was up to Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers, spent a day on Franz glacier which was really good... love new experiences definitely recommend to future goers. Then after that just did a lot of driving seen lots of lovely scenary of course... lakes and mountains etc. On the north island got our first smell of lovely stinky sulphur due to geothermal regions. We went to a maori culture night in Rotorua on the last night, it was a bit pricey as it also included the Hangi which is traditional meal. Ok so meat and veg were cooked traditionally by steam from burning rocks but they were served with salads about 5 types, gravy and stuffing and 2 desserts so not v tradional for a finsih. But there u go, obviously very advanced back then.
Martin did his bungy in Taupo thought it should be acknowledged, he did not scream at all!! ;-). Must also give the many many one car only bridges a mention thought they only existed in Ireland.
At the mo, we are pondering what we are going to do for the next week or so?? Going to leave it at that, hope all is well at home and cant wait to see ye soon.

So we are in New Zealand now, the minute we flew into Queenstown we knew we were going to like it here as the view of the mountains from the plane was fantastic. So have had a busy few days driving aroung trying to get as much in as we can. Off climbing Franz Joseph glacier tomorrow. Talk soon!!!

Hello, well its our last australian entry as you may guess from the title. We have had a good time here, going to miss Melbourne. We moved out of the apartment on Monday, rented a car and set off to tour the great ocean road. Seen some beautifiul scenary, cliffs, waves etc. Spent 2 days on the great ocean road then headed up to the Grampian Mountains. Again quiet spectacular but obviously not as good as the Kerry mountains of course. We also went to an aboriginal culture night as you can see from the video above, myself and Donal participated and you can see we have embraced the culture very well!!!!
Thats all for now, hope everyone is keeping well and sticking to their new years resolutions. Miss ye all very much. We are on the home straight now. Until New Zealand, bye for now.xxx

Hey all.We finished up working on the 21th december. We had a relaxing christmas, ate plenty.Martins uncle Donal came over to visit us, we were delighted to see him especially as he brought us over a large tin of roses and club orange...o how we missed club orange. He also brought us over over lovely xmas cake and pudding which martins mother made...thanks a million, delicious! Jenny and John came up from Sydney for the xmas too...so we had loads of lovely company. We celebrated it in style with sparkling wine and fancy glasses and turkey and ham tried to keep it traditional like home no bar-b-ques for us. Jenny made us lovely custard slices too yum yum. We went to xmas day mass in St. Kilda at the end of the mass the priest was mentioning the large irish crowd and got us all to stand up over half the church was Irish, it was nice to see.We went to Sydney for new years stayed with Jenny and John. We only went up for 3 days but we had plenty of craic. The first day we did a bit of sight seeing... showed Donie famous opera house of course. He also joined in with the locals playing some traditional aboriginal music as you will see in the pictures. Then we went on a speed boat around the habour which was class. We then headed to the pub for the sunday session to quinch our thirst after a busy day. We met Eamonn Keane he was enjoying the xmas and said to say hello to all. I also met 2 lads I went to college with Richie and Joe. martin also met some lads from his old job which was pretty funny, seemed everyone was in sydney for new years. On new years eve we went down to sydney harbour near the rocks with some beverages and a rug and sat from 3 o clock on the grass for the fireworks, there were fireworks at 9 which were good and the main ones at 12 were excellent. They didnt seem to have the same count down as at home but there was still a good atmosphere. Well thats all the news from here, hope ye are all keeping well and we miss ye loads. xxxxx Jen and Martin

Hey sorry have not updated the blog in ages. So I’m going to try and back date what we have been up to. Anyways we left Brisbane and headed for Sydney think we did it in three days so it was good going. Our funds were getting pretty so low at that stage anyways. We got to Sydney and met up with Gary and Eamon from home. It was great to see them and Gary let us park up outside there flat. We still had the van so it was fun having to go up to their place to use their loo and showers. Thanks a mill for that guys. While in Sydney we went to see the opera house of course, it was quiet amazing. We went around circular quay and to darling harbour and Manly too. I can really see the attraction of staying in Sydney there are lovely parks and lots of entertainment on the streets and the weather is good. You can have a cheap time too just pack a picnic and a bottle of wine and head off to one of the many parks.
We also sampled the night life in Sydney and of course ended up going to Irish pubs in Bondi. We went to the Tea Gardens and cock and bull which were wall to wall full of Irish so was good crack. Some people say cant believe how Irish always end up in Irish bars but we say we have plenty of time yet to sample the ozzy pub scene.
We also spent a day out at the blue mountains, did a bit of trekking there, it was a very spectacular area and so close to Sydney too.
Since Sydney, we headed to Melbourne and for some reason we decided to get the bus which cost us $77 each and involved a 12 hour bus ride during the night. The morning we were due to go we thought we should have checked flights. So we checked flights for the crack and realised we could have flown for $70 and 1 ½ hour flight o we were so mad. It was the longest bus journey I have ever been on. When we arrived in Melbourne we stayed with Rose and Bobby for a week and ½ while we were looking for an apartment. It was great staying with them and even got a few Thai cooking lessons off them . Thanks guys. We eventually found apartment, it is very nice and central too. There is a great transport system in Melbourne and we are only 10mins walk from the beach so looking forward to the summer weekends.
Bobby and Rose have since left Melbourne, they are gone to South America. We then had Jenny staying with us for a few days, it was good to have the company. She brought with her Barry’s tea bags and Cadburys chocolate a real treat, as she was coming from Ireland on route to Sydney. Hey Jenny and John hope ye enjoying Sydney.
So at the moment we are both working, no more lazing about, saving like mad for the rest of our trip. Martin working hard in construction on great money but he has to put in plenty of hours. We are now just looking forward to Christmas and Martin’s Uncle Donal coming over to visit. Five months gone so far the time is flying. Melbourne cup is on in November so we are going to try and go to that, should be fun. We must also say Happy Birthday to Martins Dad, heard ye had a great day and wish we were there. Hey catherine and sean, hope ye enjoying South Africa too!
Well that’s all for now. Hope everyone keeping well.
Xx jen and martin

Hello, so we have just come from Hervey Bay to Brisbane. Unfortunately we were unable to visit Fraser Island due to extreme weather conditions, the worst in a long time according to the news and the locals. All tours were cancelled :-( and unfortunately we didnt have enough time to wait around for the tours to start up again. So we moved on, we seen the Glass House Mountains and visited Australia Zoo which was really enjoyable. Loved seeing the Koala bears and you can see we went mad on pictures of them. It was a bit expensive though, cost E70!!, Crikey, do zoos cost that much at home?? But it was worth it all the same. We are in Brisbane now, its going to be a fleeting visit all of one day. But to be honest its just another city so we are not too worried- reminds us of Paul Kelly's song 'Every F*%king City'. We did a walk around the city this morning, up since 6am as always. I wanted to put up the croc vid and martin wanted to put up the monkey video so we settled on both. We also have a tasmanian devil video running around in crazy circles but enough is enough. Just after spending three hours working on our CV's, so fingers crossed everyone we get fabulous jobs and lots of money. Congrats to Eoghan and Marie in yer exams, the fun begins here! So until the next time... Arriverderci, au revoir, aufwiedersen, hasta la vista!!

Hi all just a quick post to say we are just back from Ayres Rock, which was fantastic infairness!! Got some nice pics but a better camera would have done a better job (Or maybe a better Photographer!). Did'nt climb the rock as my knee is still not wright, may be some other time. Just about recoverying from Waterfords unfortunate loss it was a sad few days. Anyway the future is bright!! Until next time, of to Cairns on Saturday to buy a car and drive down the East coast, camping all the way.

So just in Darwin now. We had a great five days travelling from Broome in a 4wd, camping each night, toilets in the bush and no shower for 3 days! We seen lots of beautiful places, the Kimberley region is well worth a visit and deserved more time. Really recommend the 4wd tour also as everything is included we ate better than we have in a long time, we even had steak one night!!We saw lots of wildlife and seen a bush fire, check out the photos. We were up at the crack of dawn each morning, 5am, its no easy life being a traveller. Our tour guide, Scott, was really interesting, he gave us loads of information on traditional Aboriginal practices. There were 15 people on the tour all of different ages and nationalities and so it was a good mix, we must say hello to everyone.

Greetings from the west coast of Australia, well Broom to be exact. We have just spent the last couple of weeks in a rented car driving up the west coast about 4000k so far; yes we still have another 1,500 to go!!! What can we say we have seen a lot of outback; hours of barren land with the odd beach along the way to break the journey. Spent a few days resting in Coral Bay although sometimes it didn’t feel like much of a rest as we had plenty of snorkelling and the odd nights boozing to keep us busy, sure it has to be done. Our car is due back tomorrow, it has a little scrap on the front of it from either vandalism or it was there from the start, hopefully we don’t loose any of our deposit. We are going on a 4X4 trek through the Kimberley’s and Kakadu on Saturday really looking forward to that, thanks Catherine for the tip! We were delighted as we were able to bargain $300+ off the price, think the lady on the phone liked Martin hahahah. We have put up a few photos but many people have seen them before. We also put up some photos of an AFL game we went to see in Perth of which there will be many more to come says Martin. Must give of course our usually commentary about the weekends GAA activities, hard luck to Clare! Martin was raging he didn’t get to see or hear the Waterford match and its looking likely that he wont get to see the replay either. Thanks to all for the results updates. Up the Deise for the weekend!!!! Till Later………..

Hello. So we have spent the last few days in Perth. It’s a really lovely city, a real breath of fresh air from the travelling so far. The weather here is like at home nice and fresh but not as much rain as I here they are getting at home. We were really lucky the first day we went sight seeing the sky was clear and the sun was shining so we were able to get lovely views of Kings Park. We were really lucky to have Jacky from Kerry bringing us around; she was a real injection of energy- thanks a million Jacky! We went to see many different beaches- City Beach, Scarborough Beach and Cottesloe beach of course. We drove to Fremantle also, a nice traditional type town. We must also say a major thank you to Margaret and Sean for putting us up for a few nights, it was really nice to be in a home environment with great food and good company, Thanks a lot! Going to head up the west coast now in a few days, we are renting a car. It works out just as cheap for us to rent the car as to get a bus and at least we will have a bit more freedom to do our own thing so looking forward to that.

Hi all Jen and Martin here on our last day in Asia. We are currently in Singapore. There is not much to report here really it just a big city with loads of shopping centres, 80+!!! We are staying in a lovely hostel with a pool on the roof and a buffet breakfast. We went to a Karaoke bar last night hahaha what a laugh, listening to Singaporean Karaoke. We travelled through Penang and Kuala Lumpar in Malaysia during the week. The places we were in were mainly geared towards shopping. The Petronas Towers in KL are deadly though and we spent a deadly evening in the Skypool Bar opposite them, felt like stars!! We have both really enjoyed the last month and learnt so much through the experience. We are gone nearly 3 months now and have one more month to go before we will stop for six months in Melbourne to work and get some sort of stability in our lives (Save Money Too!!) The last of the South East Asia photos are up but not much to look at. Thats all for now. Hope everyone keeping well and of course Up the Deise and Up the Banner.

OK all here is the latest from us, after Vietnam we headed for Cambodia. It seemed much poorer but again the people were happy out and working hard. First we visited Pnomh Penh where we went to see the killing fields and associated Museum which gave us an insight into the aftermath of the Kymer Regime (See More). Very sad, its hard to believe it only happened 30 years ago.
Next we headed off towards Ankgor to see the Temples. Some people might remember these from one of the Tomb Raider films. They were unbelievable even in their ruined state. Wish we had a decent wide angle lense to capture it properly but we did our best. Siem Reip, the location of the temples, was an expensive area considering the countries state of development.
Then on to Bangkok for the Ping Pong show, which we did not get to see by the way, from what we hear it is a must for Bangkok. The City itself was good fun and full of shops to Jens delight. Very modern so not much else to say there.
After that we headed to the island of Ko phagnan. We got the night train down, which was fun but unfortunately we didnt get much sleep as the train stopped every half hour and and the driver loved to use the breaks. We found ourselves some really cheap accomodation on the beach and we were all set for the Full Moon Party!! Full moon party is class lots of music, plenty people drinking and having fun. We had a really good few days in general except when a crazy dog took a fancy to Martin and bit him on the ankle the fecker also robbed our wallet :-). So after that decided we needed some TLC so we headed to the west of the island to some nice beaches and even nicer accomodation.
Down in Krabbie now on the west coast of Thailand. Driving around on another scooter checking out nice beaches and so on. Heading to Malaysia in 2 days and then to Oz on the 16th , cant wait!! Up the Deise tomorrow!!!!!!

Yesterday we visited the Cu Chi tunnels, this gave us some representation of what things were like when the Vietnamese fought against the Americans. It was nice to get the viewpoint of the Vienamese where killing Americans sounded like a hobby. The tunnels are pretty cool you wouldn't want to go down into them if your any bit claustrophobic!
Today we went went to visit a candy coconut factory, honeybee farm and got numerous boat trips in and around the Mekong Delta. My god what an atmosphere really reminded me of the film Deer Hunter. (Thanks Johnathan). Very difficult to describe, check out the video. All in all really enjoyed the last two days. South east Asia seems so far alot easier than India as its a little more civilised!

What a man our Dan is!! A quick post to show my delight for a superb Waterford victory of our arch nemesis Cork. We were listening to every minute of it in Japan on Radio one. What a Game. I suppose this is where I should mention upthedeise.com in keeping with tradition. (I am sure you enjoyed the game Cian). Anyway well done again Waterford :) . Also must say well done to Marie and Eoghan on finishing there exams-ye can enjoy the summer now. Well done Brian on your exams too! Good luck to Aisling who is starting hers.

Our last day in Japan so better fill you in on what we have been up to. We spent the first two days in Tokya of course we dedicated half a day to the electronics market and the rest on the major sights in Tokyo. The electroics market has many varieties of electronics and expecially mobile phones far more trendier than what we have at home. Computers and game consoles are a bit cheaper than at home but there were no great bargains.Martin did however manage to convince me to buy him a PSP as an early birthday pressie but it only cost E100 so I think that was a good deal and it is keeping him quite.
The next day we got a subway day pass for about E8 and spent the day zipping around the city. We went to the Sony building and Tyota and Nissan showrooms also. The Sony building had lots of cool electronic equipment on display but the car shops did not have any concept cars so they were a bit disappointing. We also went to the Sunshine City tower which gives a 360 degree view of the city among other attractions. The people in Tokyo have a deadly fashion sense, they are all so petite and have a funky style, really like it. There are also vending machines and video archades on every corner!
On Wednesday we went on an 8hour nightbus trip to Kyoto a more traditional Japanese town. While there we viewed some really nice temples and gardens.I now understand why Japanese gardens have much acclaim. It was raining that day but it didnt bother us too much, it kind of added to the whole thing. Thursday we decided to go to Nara, a 45 minute trainride away. It is a really nice town very quaint and traditional. There were lots of deers about, these were traditionally viewed as messengers of god and so today they are still allowed to roam around the town. They are very tame and look for food off people. We went to see a deadly temple, with some cool statues of Budda. All in all, this was our favourite spot.
Of course we also sampled some Sake, Japanese rice wine horrible stuff. Think Martin liked it more than myself. Thanks Brian for the Sake tip!!
So to sum up, Japan is a very nice country and I would highly recommend people visiting it. I would love to have had more time here but the place is pretty expensive so not possible this time!

Its our last night in Hong Kong, the week went by quickly. Hong Kong is a lovely city, its a pity that it was rainy the last few days as the pictures we have dont do the place justice. Its very modern, a nice change from India. The people here are very friendly and helpful too. We went to see a huge budda on Lantau island, did a bit of shopping-Hong Kong really is a shopping city and went out last night to a few pubs!It was our first night out in a month so enjoyed it- there were no pubs in India. Have to go now, heading to Tokyo tomorrow! Hope every one is well and thanks for the comments.

Ok we made it back to Dehli at long last!!! It took two nights literally traveling under the cover of dark to get to Dehli. They have not yet resolved the issues between the two tribes and its now day 6 but we had to get to Dehli for our flight on tues morning. So we travelled during the night , so as all the trouble makers would be asleep. We got here at 7. We were blessed with our driver and the decisions he made or else we would still be in Puskar miles away from Dehli as the closed the Highway due to violence after we arrived. Anyway here safe and sound and its Jens birthay so we had pizza for the special occasion. All in all India is a lovely country but we are glad to be moving on to Hong Kong Tuesday.
So till then!!!

In Goa at the moment, we are staying in a villa with the Swedish couple and also a lad we met at the airport from England, Hello Sean.Goa is a lovely calm tourist area although it is off peak season now so there are not many tourists about. It is different to Delhi, the people seem a lot more laid back and the women tend to dress more westernised i.e shorts and t-shirt.There are miles of beautiful coastline with people bathing their buffaloes in the evening time. All in all Goa is beautiful except when I got some sort of allergic reaction. My whole body was covered in some sort of rash :-) and I had a swollen lip and ankles etc. So I was pretty miserable; see photos under Goa. Luckily we went to a doctor who prescribed some medication and things seem to be improving. Dont know what caused it, hopefully it won't happen again. On the up side, the doctor cost only 4 euros!Off to Rajisthan (spellcheck!!) on the 22nd so ready more.

Hey all, we are having an interesting time so far in India. We landed in Delhi and nearly died. The place is so huge so hot so busy and so crazy, it nearly scared us into an early flight out. There are about 12 million people living in Delhi alone so you can imagine the hustle and bustle here. There is also a major contrast between those who have and those who dont have, it is common to see a 5 star hotel and just outside it poor people living in a slum.We find people stare at us all the time as if they have never seen a white person before or maybe we just look like dollar signs as we are forever being stopped to buy stuff or are begged. The driving here is funny, they beep their horns at each other instead of using their indicators and if there are three lanes four cars will usually squeeze together. The people here are in general very helpful but there are many con artists all trying to scam us i.e like adding extra to the end of a bill. Another day we took a picture of a monkey and the guy wanted money for the picture but we didnt want to give him any, so then he tried to force his way into the car so we locked our doors and tried to ignore him.So we decided it was time to get out of Delhi after seen a few tourist attractions like the India Gate. We also met a lovely Swedish couple who were travelling here so we decided to join them (Thanks Jenny and Mattias). To sum up we would say that you really need to see Delhi for yourself. Anyways thats all the news on Delhi!

hey, last day in Paris.I have alot of positive things to say about Paris and you can see why from the pictures. Paris really is a lovely city with loads of interesting places to visit ie Lourve, Eifel Tower, Notre Dame etc . One place I was not aware of is the business district in Paris, Le Defense, it is very modern and a complete contrast to the city centre where most tourists tend to stay- I would describe it as a breath of fresh air. However I would say we really needed alot more time to see everything properly. Must say they have an excellent transport system; we got a Zone 1 and 2 weekly ticket for just E16 and can be used unlimited. The toilets in Paris are not great and you kindof have to share them with men-wonder what it will be like in Thailand? We were also very lucky as we were able to stay with friends- Thanks a million for putting us up Sona,Elyes and friends! Sona cooked georgeous Algerian foods for us, they took us around to visit places and recommended places to visit which was a real help- however this maybe bad training for us for when we go to India... ah well. Anyways thats all for now. Kinda backtracking tomorrow as heading up to London; it was the only place from where we could travel to India. But we are visiting Martins brother so it works out just fine.ok bye for now!
